IN my readings, the rich man, even while in the place of torement, doesn't ask father Abraham to send help to the those outside his caste, or social class, only to his brothers who are like himself. Does this mean that even now he cannot see the true misery of those who lived just outside his wall-in mansion?
Interesting point that of keeping those we do not want to see, or help just outside, walled off if need be.
another point, some scholars say that Lazarus received the scraps from the rich man, the reading could be that he had to fight for the food, to get his share before the dogs did.
