CLC's history see through its WORLD ASSEMBLIES
With his Apostolic Constitution BIS SECULARI,
Pope Pius XII initiated the renewal process of the Marian
Congregations. In 1953 he approved the World Federation of the
Sodalities of our Lady.
The
first World
Assembly took place in Rome in 1954.
The 2nd World Assembly in
Newark in 1959
took a first step towards the formulation of
the General Principles. That same year the Secretariat in Rome
sent out its first letter to all federations. It was the beginning
of a world-wide consultation and exchange of experiences that led
to our first General Principles.
At the 3rd World Assembly in Bombay in 1964
the General Principles were practically ready but it was judged
wise to present them for approval after the conclusion of Vatican
II.
The 4th World Assembly in Rome in 1967
brought forth a new name Christian Life Communities,
and the new General Principles.
The 5th Assembly in Santo Domingo in 1970
brought a crisis and a big challenge for the future of our
Community. The following Assemblies tried to respond to this
challenge.
The 6th World Assembly in Augsburg '73.
The call to be free, "the liberation of all men and women". It was
a new type of Assembly with guided retreats and a formation
course.
7th World Assembly in
Manila '76 :
the call to be poor, "poor with Christ for a better service". This
Assembly was combined with three formation courses.
8th World Assembly in Rome
'79 :
the call towards a World Community "at the service of One World".
9th World Assembly in
Providence '82 :
The challenge to be one World Community on mission to "bring about
justice".
10th World Assembly in
Loyola '86:
Seeing Mary as model of our mission, being asked to do "whatever
Christ tells us".
11th World Assembly in
Guadalajara '90 :
Called to be an international community "at the service of the
Kingdom, to go out and bear fruit". The revised General Principles
were approved.
12th World Assembly in
Hong Kong '94:
Called to be a "Community in mission" to bring fire to the earth,
facing today's challenges and programming the main lines of action
for the following years.
13th World Assembly in Itaici (Brazil) '98:
Deepening our identity as an apostolic Community - clarifying our
common mission. "CLC, a letter from Christ, written by the Spirit,
sent to today's world.".
14th World Assembly in
Nairobi (Kenya)
2003:
“Sent by Christ, members of one body “.
