Who is Đồng Hành? What is CLC?

Đồng Hành is a community of lay Vietnamese Catholics who lives outside of their homeland Vietnam. Since 1978, it has been formed under the guidance of the Jesuits and non-Jesuit priests who are knowledgeable and love the Ignatian spirituality. Its formation follows the model of the congregation of Christian Life Community (CLC or CVX in French and Spanish).

CLC is an international congregation of lay Catholics directly under the Holy See. Its General Principles was approved in 1971 and the revision was approved with Decree No. 1620/90/AIC-50 from the PONTIFICIUM CONSILIUM PRO LAICIS in 1990. CLC has a long history stretching all the way back to 1563, and for a long time was known as the Mariam Congregation, a.k.a. the Solidarities of our Lady. The office of the congregation is located in Rome.

Đồng Hành on the other hand can trace its history back to 1978 in the USA even though the seed for it was planned much earlier back in Saigon, Vietnam. At the present time, the Community of Đồng Hành is made up of numerous groups in the USA, Canada, England, Belgium and Germany, with some affiliations in Japan and Australia.

Objective of Đồng Hành CLC

Đồng Hành CLC is a community of Catholics, women and men, adults and young people, of all social conditions, who are united in Christ and through the companionship for one another. We want to follow Jesus Christ more closely and work with Him for the building of the Kingdom in our world today. The charism and spirituality of CLC/Đồng Hành are Ignitian. Thus, the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius are both the specific source of its charism and the characteristic instrument of CLC/Đồng Hành spirituality.

Đồng Hành adopted the General Principles of CLC as its own general principles in 2001.
