This was a
telephone conversation illegally taped to serve one purpose -
informing our readers the honest facts. This has been transcribed
verbatim from the tape for Dong Hanh Journal.
Date: Tuesday,
October 2, 2001
Time: 1:45 A.M.
Trúc (in her NOLA
accent): Feedback from my group, the game shows was one of the most
memorable moments of the HMVTT (Họp Mặt Vùng Trung Tây). From “Family
Feud” to “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,” they said it kept them
amused, awake, and focused on the subject.
Trâm: The game
shows were good, and I think KC teens really enjoyed meeting new and
old friends, friends made a long time ago from different gatherings,
and of course?the wonder of AIM.
Bảo: Hailll
yeah, of course meeting up with old “family” members from the Đồng
Hành was an extra plus.
Trâm: Bảo, what
did your group think about the new Youth Night?
Bảo: We thought
it was great! Nothing was better than Rave and Christian music so the
youth and the adults can get together to share a cultural world from
both sides.
Trúc: Yep! That
was also a good way to let the adults and the youth communicate, and
of course we made lots of MULAsss, $867 from auctioning the “holy”
people and selling glow stick. Our Midwest fund is rich this year!
Trâm: Also this
year the different track to have a separate youth and adults program
was an excellent idea.
Bảo: There was
one person in my group who said the same thing. He said that it would
be cool if youth and adults can spend more time together, though, to
get to know one another better.
Trúc: Yeah. Age
should not be a factor when it is God that we are all seeking for.
Trâm: Were there
any negative feedbacks from your groups like what they don’t wanna see
repeated?
Bảo: Yeah there
were some. Like the rules were a little bit strict.
Trúc: My group
raised up the same comment. The rules created a lot of uneasiness
among the youth.
Trâm: I know
what you mean, we need rules and regulations in big gatherings, but
when too strict, we lose the sense of closeness that a family shares.
Bảo: Oh, ooohhh
in my group, one member pointed out “the” price, which was a tad
high. Just the fact that they had to drive themselves there and back,
the money for gas alone was a burden.
Trâm: Yeah,
after all, we are all HS and college students. We live on water and
crackers for lunch to save money for events like this. But, let’s not
sidetrack. Overall, how was the HMVTT?
Trúc (in her
NOLA accent AGAIN): I thought it was cool, very cool. There is still
a little more to make it better like more sharing time, so the little
groups can really get to know each other.
Bảo: Oh yeah?and
don’t forget how everyone enjoyed Cha Long imitation “Mmmmm.”
*** End of tape!
Hello to all
Y’ALL! This is Bảo from Wichita Falls, Texas. We are taking out
“lots” of our precious time (about 15 minutes, to be accurate) from
studying, working, and of course, online “im-ing” and emailing to
compile a short survey of the recent họp mặt vùng during Labor Day
2001 at Carthage, MO.
To prevent YALL
from misunderstanding, I just typed up our phone conversation. From
the three groups in Wichita Falls, New Orleans, and Kansas City,
feedbacks were summarized.
To sum up this
conversation, many points were proposed for the next meeting. I am
sorry to all the youth groups that were not included in this
conversation. The time was cut real short, and of course, Trúc, Trâm
and I - being a trained procrastinator - did not have more time to
call each of you and chat. We hope that next time, we can include
feedback from more youth groups.
Love in Christ,
Trúc-Bảo-Trâm
